Keep Bamberg County Beautiful

The office of Keep Bamberg County Beautiful (KBCB) focuses their mission on engaging citizens to take a greater responsibility for improving the environment of Bamberg County through efforts in beautification, litter prevention and waste reduction.

The department functions as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB), a national non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the environment by empowering individuals to take greater responsibility of the protection and enhancement of their local communities.

As of the second quarter of 2015, KBCB has received, or assisted in bringing in more than $480,000, in grant funds from various sources like PalmettoPride, DHEC, Keep America Beautiful and more. The organization has also assisted in planting more than 300 trees and shrubs throughout the county, and they are also responsible for creating more than 10 green spaces throughout the county since July 2014. Thanks to the Keep America Beautiful Lowe's Community Partner Grant, in 2017 they opened a community garden, which also includes a fish pond, eight raised beds, a walking trail and much more.

Since their beginning, more than 75,000 pounds of litter have been collected from the roadways, boat landings and parks throughout the county. The department completes most of its work with close to 1000 volunteers, and the majority of those volunteers are under the age of 18. Along with working with volunteers, KBCB also works with the local South Carolina Department of Transportation office, local businesses, churches, groups and other organizations to fulfill its mission.

Recently, thanks to the great foundation laid at Bamberg County the first director of KBCB, has now become the Keep South Carolina Beautiful Director, Mallory D. Biering. Mary Tilton, is the current KBCB Coordinator. KSCB also works from Bamberg, in an effort to have an office closer to the low country affiliates of KSCB.
