Councilwoman Sharon Hammond Hosts Elected Officials Women’s Day Luncheon

Bamberg, South Carolina (March 2018) On March 28, 2018, Bamberg County Councilwoman Sharon Hammond hosted the first Bamberg County Elected Officials Women’s Day Luncheon.  The women of Bamberg County play a major role in local government, as they hold positions in all forms of government throughout the county. The theme of the gathering was “Nevertheless; She Persisted. Coming Together, Building Partnerships.”

 

At the March 2018 Bamberg County Council meeting, Councilwoman Hammond introduced a Women’s History Resolution honoring the progress women have made and the challenges that still exist. Hammond hosted the Elected Officials Women’s Day working luncheon to create stronger relationships and strengthen partnerships between the female elected officials in Bamberg County, All local elected official women were invited to the luncheon including mayors, City Council members, County Council members, School Board members, and County Officials.

 

Hammond welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions that women make to Bamberg County, the nation, and the world. She discussed the value of elected officials working together for the benefit of county residents and the importance of sharing information with one another. Attendees shared ideas, concerns, and recommendations to improve the quality of life in Bamberg County. “Women are always working,” stated Councilwoman Hammond. “We need to work together and improve our partnerships for the benefit of the county. Though this may be the end of the today’s luncheon, we hope it is the beginning of our partnership.” 

 

The luncheon was held under the Bamberg County gazebo and was catered by Bamberg County’s Cheryl Hoffman. The group intends to hold gatherings every six months.
