Bamberg, South Carolina (February 2020) – PalmettoPride announced that Bamberg County was awarded $14,647 in grant funds through the Keep South Carolina Beautiful grant and the Litter Prevention grant. The grants will be administered through Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and Bamberg County Code Enforcement offices and will fund litter prevention, enforcement, and education efforts throughout the county.
The grant funding will support litter enforcement efforts by funding the purchase of improved and additional equipment for litter enforcement officers. Additionally, the grants funds will allow the purchase of equipment and supplies needed for community litter cleanups, promotional materials, support for professional development opportunities, and beautification efforts.
“Bamberg County is fortunate to have the continued financial and professional support from PalmettoPride,” stated Bill Johnson, Bamberg County Director of Operations. “Without this financial support, Bamberg County would be unable to continue to enhance our litter enforcement efforts. We appreciate PalmettoPride’s continued support of our work in Bamberg County. While we know there is still work to be done, it takes a widespread and varied approach, to include enforcement, education, and awareness, to eliminate litter.”
The South Carolina state legislature created PalmettoPride, a non-profit organization, as the state anti-litter and beautification organization. In addition to numerous education and awareness programs, PalmettoPride awards grant funding to local anti-litter, beautification, and litter enforcement efforts. Bamberg County has received approximately $80,000 in grant funding from PalmettoPride since 2015.
“Bamberg County Council appreciates the efforts Bamberg County staff make to secure grant funding and to reduce litter in our county,” said Councilman Isaiah Odom. “In addition to looking unsightly, the presence of litter negatively impacts the county’s economic development efforts and reduces community pride. I encourage the community to work together with Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and Bamberg County Code Enforcement to beautify and keep our county clean.”
Keep Bamberg County Beautiful is available to provide education or community support and hosts frequent cleanups throughout the county. If you are interested in being on the KBCB event email list or would like to organize an event or cleanup, please email kbcb@bambergcounty.sc.gov.
