Department of Solid Waste Mission Statement

Providing quality waste disposal services, which compile with federal, state, and local regulations for municipal solid waste and construction, demolition, and land clearing debris for the citizens of Bamberg County.

 

Functions

Bamberg County Solid Waste Department is responsible for operating and maintaining a Solid Waste Transfer Station designed for the processing of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The waste is received from municipalities and private waste haulers and loaded onto trailers for transport and disposal in an approved landfill facility at Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority (TRSWA) in Jackson, South Carolina.

 

The county also operates a Construction & Demolition landfill where all construction type waste meeting regulatory guidelines is disposed of in the landfill. Waste tires are also collected at the Bamberg County Landfill where they are shipped to a tire processing facility and recycled at its landfill.  Yard debris is also accepted at the Bamberg County Landfill.

 

The Department also manages eight Solid Waste Collection & Recycling Centers (Convenience Sites) throughout the County. Click here to see their locations and hours of operation.

Responsibilities:

• Operation of a Waste Transfer Station for disposal of municipal solid waste and commercial waste

• Operation of a Construction, Demolition, and Land Clearing Debris landfill

• Processing of scrap metal and white goods for recycling

• Processing of waste tires through chipping and recycling

• Documentation of all wastes that enter and exit the landfill

• Billing of landfill accounts

 

This office does not:

• Provide residential garbage collection

• Place disposal boxes at construction sites

 

Directions to Landfill

From Bamberg (starting near Hardee's at the intersection of Hwys 301 and 78)

Head west (toward Denmark) on Hwy 78

Turn left on Cox Ave (State Rd S-5-32, next to Horizon/Enmarket Gas Station)

Follow Cox Ave until it turns into Capernaum Rd

Continue on Capernaum Rd. for 1.5 miles. The landfill will be on the right.

 

From Denmark (starting near Jim Harrison's Gallery at the intersection of Hwys 78 and 321/70)

Head south (toward Govan) on Hwy 321

Turn left on Voorhees Rd for 2.1 miles

Turn left on Capernaum Rd for 0.8 miles, the landfill will be on the left
