Re:     Bamberg County Broadband Ground-Breaking Is Here!

Bamberg, South Carolina (May, 2024) – After much anticipation, Bamberg County Council proudly announces that a broadband ground-breaking ceremony will be held this Friday, May 17, 11 a.m. at the Bamberg County Airport entrance (709 Airport Road). Bamberg County and City officials, Representative Justin Bamberg, USDA Field Staff Branch Chief Shannon LeGree and Administrative Officer Janice Allen, and a representative for Congressman James Clyburn are expected to participate in the festivities. Engineer William Metts with Metts Engineering will also be on hand to explain the details of the project.

Bamberg County was awarded a $12 million USDA federal grant last year to spearhead the long-awaited and desperately-needed broadband expansion project. The grant, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, was awarded to Bamberg County after ten years of grant applications.

“The broadband groundbreaking will be a historic moment for Bamberg County, and we are pleased to be moving forward with this project” stated Bamberg County Council Chairman Evert Comer, Jr.

County Administrator Joey Preston said, “High-quality internet will benefit both virtual and in-person students, providing them with the tools they need to excel, and will also boost economic development by attracting new businesses and industries, which will support job creation.”
