Bamberg, South Carolina (September 2021) – At the August 9, 2021 Bamberg County Council meeting, Council passed on third reading and after a public hearing, Ordinance #2-21-2, which formally adopted the County's Code of Ordinances. Upon adoption of the code of ordinances, Bamberg County partnered with MuniCode to ensure citizens can access all ordinances online via the County website.
As a Home Rule state, the South Carolina General Assembly grants all counties the power to enact laws, called ordinances, that apply within the county limits and must not contradict state or federal laws. Bamberg County Council had passed many ordinances over time, but until September 13, 2021, the ordinances were not available for citizens to easily access.
"Most municipalities and counties in South Carolina have their code of ordinances posted online," said Larry Haynes, Bamberg County Council Chairman. "County Council thanks Bamberg County Administrator and his staff for ensuring that Bamberg County government is providing this important information in an easily accessible manner for our citizens. It was an important and essential step forward for our County."
"Thanks to the support of the members of County Council, Bamberg County is able to move forward and modernize its code of ordinances," stated Joey Preston, Bamberg County Administrator. "In this digital age, it is imperative that we make as many services available online for our citizens as possible. I am proud to be a part of this effort on behalf of Bamberg County."
The Bamberg County code of ordinances is available on the Bamberg County website, on the home page, under the Quick Links section, or via https://www.bambergcountysc.gov/code-of-ordinances
