Re: Bamberg County Commends Sheriff's Office for Outstanding Service and Highlights the Success of the "R U OK?" Program in the Aftermath of Hurricane Helene
Bamberg, SC – In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Bamberg County Sheriff's Office has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents. Their exceptional service during and after the storm has been nothing short of exemplary, and their efforts to ensure our community remains strong and connected are deeply appreciated by all.
One of the department’s most impactful programs, the "R U OK?" initiative, has proven to be a lifeline for many of our vulnerable residents in the aftermath of the hurricane. The program, designed to check on senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and those living alone, has become an invaluable resource as recovery efforts continue.
Sheriff Kenneth Bamberg and his dedicated team have been working around the clock, conducting wellness checks, responding to emergencies, and ensuring residents have the necessary resources during this difficult time. The "R U OK?" program, which provides weekly phone calls to enrolled residents, was instrumental in identifying individuals who were isolated or in need of assistance following the storm’s devastation.
“Our top priority is the safety and security of every person in Bamberg County,” said Sheriff Bamberg. “The 'R U OK?' program has allowed us to extend our reach and care for those who might otherwise be forgotten in the chaos after a disaster. We are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.”
The Sheriff’s Office received dozens of calls from residents thanking deputies for their dedication, compassion, and timely response in checking on loved ones. For many, those calls meant the difference between struggling in silence and receiving critical help when needed most.
Bamberg County Government applauds the Sheriff's Office for its leadership and forward-thinking approach. By integrating programs like "R U OK?" into their disaster response plan, the department has not only enhanced the safety of our community but also fostered a spirit of care and cooperation that will benefit Bamberg residents for years to come.
