Re:     Bamberg County Council Adopts Resolution in Support of Olar Post Office   

Bamberg, South Carolina (April 2025) –During last week’s meeting, the Bamberg County Council adopted a resolution requesting state and federal leaders preserve a functioning United States post office in Olar, South Carolina. 

The federal government appears to be considering closing a number of area post offices for cost-saving purposes. As a result, the United States Postal Service (USPS) informed Olar residents their post office, located at 15223 Carolina Highway, Olar, SC 29843, would temporarily close for repairs, effective March 31, 2025. Olar residents were directed to utilize the Denmark Post Office until further notice. 

In the resolution, the Bamberg County Council requested the continuation of service in Olar without disruption or inconvenience to the citizens, including the elderly and disabled, who have limited access and resources to reach more distant post offices. The Council offered to help locate a suitable and permanent Olar Post Office to expedite the process.  

District 7 Councilwoman Michelle Martin emphasized the importance of preserving the Olar Post Office; “Our most vulnerable citizens have been negatively impacted by the closure. Unfortunately, many Olar residents simply don’t have the means to access the Denmark Post Office. It’s our responsibility to provide them with this essential service.”

County Administrator Joey Preston said, “The Bamberg County Council and administration are committed to collaborating with the town of Olar and the federal government to rectify this issue as quickly and efficiently as possible. We understand the inconvenience of this situation and will advocate for the good people of Olar until the problem is solved.”
