Bamberg, South Carolina (January 2022) – At a special presentation ceremony held at the Bamberg County Courthouse gazebo, Dr. Jonathan Goodman, the newly installed vice chair of the Bamberg County Council honored Bamberg’s state champion baseball team.
“It’s an absolute honor and privilege to recognize this talented group of young citizens who have been great ambassadors for our county,” Dr. Goodman said, before reading the official proclamation. “On behalf of the members of the Bamberg County Council, I congratulate on all your hard work and present this resolution adopted by our governing body in honor of your success.”
Dr. Goodman sponsored the resolution that was unanimously approved by the Bamberg County Council at their September meeting.
The Bamberg all-stars clinched a spot to represent the state of South Carolina in the World Series by winning the state championship against St. George in July in the tournament played in Orangeburg.
The team then traveled to Laurel, Mississippi to compete in the Dixie Youth Division 2 Baseball World Series and won third place. In addition to the team’s athletic prowess, one of the Bamberg players, Jason Youmans, took home first place in the Home Run Derby.
Dr. Goodman, a longtime educator and children’s advocate, expressed gratitude to the parents and family members of the team in attendance, “Thank you for believing in them, encouraging them, and getting them to practice everyday. I believe in the power of young people, and more importantly, I believe that this is just the beginning of many successes for all of you. Bamberg County is looking forward to seeing the great things you all will accomplish in life. You have made us proud.”
To cap off the exciting afternoon, players and coaches were presented with medals and certificates designating them as official ambassadors of Bamberg County. Head coach Bryan Ayer received a framed copy of the signed resolution on behalf of the team.
“This was a great group of kids to coach this year,” said Bryan Ayer. “They had an incredible season. I loved playing with them; I loved coaching them. They all have bright futures ahead of them because of the determination, hard work, and discipline they all possess. As I said before, proud is an understatement.”
The following players and coaches were honored for their athletic success and designated as Bamberg County Ambassadors:
Players: BJ Ayer, Brian McMillan Jr., Jason Youmans, Landon Kuck, Tripp Brewer, Maxx Judy Michael Myers, Brooks Scott, Jase Culler, Cooper Sandifer, and Tucker Brewer.
Coaches: Bryan Ayer, Chris Sandifer, and James Brewer.
