Bamberg, South Carolina (March 2023) – On March 13, 2023, Bamberg County Council, after a third reading, unanimously voted to support an ordinance that provides incentives for Project Homegrown in Bamberg County. Additionally, the Council also approved a resolution to expand a multi-county business park, partnering with Hampton, Allendale, and Barnwell Counties. 

Project Homegrown is an existing industrial expansion within Bamberg County that has chosen to continue to invest in the Bamberg community. This existing industry has already invested roughly $3 million, including one previous expansion, and currently has 19 employees within Bamberg County. This new expansion should add about 30 new jobs with an investment of $2.8 million, including a new building and the addition of manufacturing processes that had originally been outsourced. Bamberg County has agreed to an SSRC (Special Source Revenue Credit) of 30% for 10 years as an incentive from the local level for the project.  

County Council Chairman Dr. Jonathan Goodman said, “This expansion will prove beneficial to our economy and demonstrates what we have always known. Once industries commit to a presence in Bamberg County, they thrive and choose to stay.”

Councilman Clint Carter of District 7 was pleased with this new development saying, “The creation of 30 jobs is great news for our citizens, and we are thankful Project Homegrown has decided to move forward with this venture.”

According to County Administrator Joey Preston, “This expansion could have occurred anywhere in the state, yet Project Homegrown chose to remain right here in Bamberg County. This is a testament of the faith they have in our county and its leaders to make this project a success that will benefit all involved.”

The identity of the company will be revealed soon by the Southern Carolina Alliance and the SC Department of Commerce.
