Bamberg, South Carolina (February 2019) – Bamberg County reported a good year for new residential construction permits in 2018. Fifteen permits were issued for new residential construction indicating an increasing trend in new residential construction permit applications in Bamberg County. Thirteen new residential construction permits were issued in 2017 and six permits were issued in 2016.
Construction permits are one method of measuring the health of a county’s economy as indicators of population and business growth. “2018 was one of the best years for new residential construction permits in 10 years,” said Bill Johnson, Bamberg County Director of Operations. “The county has seen an increase in new construction of second homes along the Edisto River as well as new hunting properties built on Bamberg County land.”
“Bamberg County Council is pleased to see individuals invest in our county by choosing to build new homes here. An increase in building permits is a promising sign for our county and a trend we hope to see continue in 2019,” stated Trent Kinard, Bamberg County Council Chairman. “We know that Bamberg County is a great place to live full-time, but it also has many outdoor recreation amenities with the Edisto River and access to great hunting land that attracts out-of-county investors. This new construction benefits everyone.”
