Re:      Bamberg County Residents Should Report Hurricane Damage Now

Bamberg, South Carolina (October 2024) – As Bamberg County residents continue to recover from the effects of Hurricane Helene, they must remember to report any storm-related damage to their home, property, or local infrastructure as soon as possible. Doing so is crucial to helping our Bamberg community recover and secure necessary aid.

Bamberg County officials are also working diligently with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) to determine if citizens with property damage caused by the storm will qualify for individual Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) or Small Business Administration (SBA) assistance. President Biden declared South Carolina to be in a state of emergency; therefore, Bamberg residents may qualify for individual FEMA assistance.

According to the South Carolina Office of Resiliency, “FEMA may be able to help with serious needs, displacement, temporary lodging, basic home repair costs, personal property loss or other disaster-caused needs.”

Bamberg County citizens may apply for FEMA assistance by:

  • Calling 1-800-621-3362 (7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily
  • Visiting disasterassistance.gov
  • Using the FEMA App

Anyone using a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, can give FEMA the number for that service.

Additionally, small business owners with Helene-related property damage may get information on SBA disaster assistance by:

Bamberg County Emergency Division Director Tiffany Kemmerlin stated, “Along with Bamberg County officials and SCEMD, we are working diligently to get our citizens the help they need as quickly as possible. We will share more information on our website and social media platforms as soon as we receive it. However, we strongly encourage homeowners who have incurred storm damage to apply for FEMA individual assistance and business owners to seek assistance from SBA as soon as possible.”
