Bamberg, South Carolina (September 2021) – The Bamberg County Board of Elections announced the hiring of Athena Moorer as the County's new Director of Voter Registration and Elections.

"The Board and I are excited to welcome Ms. Moorer to Bamberg County," stated Curtis Tyler, Board of Elections Chairman. "After a comprehensive search, the Board recognized that Ms. Moorer had the right combination of professional experience and interpersonal skills to excel in this role in Bamberg County. We look forward to working with her and are eager to support her as she becomes acquainted with Bamberg County voters." The Bamberg County Board of Elections consists of seven community members. The state delegation recommends the members to the Governor, who appoints the members to four-year terms.

Ms. Moorer previously worked for Dorchester County as the Manager of Elections and Voter Registrations and has multiple years of experience working in County Voter Registration and Elections. She possesses a certificate in Voter Registration and Elections and degrees in Early Childhood Education from Trident Technical College and South Carolina State University. 

"I look forward to ensuring fair and impartial elections for the citizens of Bamberg County," said Ms. Moorer. "This position was the perfect opportunity for me to use the skills and experience I gained in Dorchester County as the Manager of Elections and Voter Registration. I am here to answer any questions voters may have about voting or elections and look forward to getting to know the Bamberg County community."
