Bamberg, South Carolina (April 2017) – In April, Bamberg County Public Information Officer and Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Coordinator Mallory Biering resigned from the County to accept the position as Director of Keep South Carolina Beautiful and Community Outreach Program Manager for PalmettoPride.

During her time with Bamberg County, Biering helped to create KBCB and helped gain more than 1,000 volunteers—the majority of those volunteers being under the age of 18. More than 300 trees and shrubs were planted, a park was created with a nature trail, hundreds of partnerships were formed, and more than 75,000lbs of litter were collected from the roadways of Bamberg County during her career with the County.

Not only was Biering successful in helping to create such an impact with KBCB, but she also was the project manager for the new Bamberg County website and social media pages. Her work also included managing the website and working with community members, businesses and contractors to create and maintain the website daily.

Biering was present for many natural disasters, including the Flood of 2015 and Hurricane Matthew. During the flood, she worked to ensure citizens knew which roads were passable and impassable, as well as joined FEMA and DNR to survey homes on the river just hours after the water started to rise. She assisted Brittany Barnwell, Bamberg County Emergency Services Director, throughout Hurricane Matthew by creating press releases, public announcements to the citizens of Bamberg County, assisting during meetings with state and FEMA officials, set up interviews with news media sources, and documenting the damage after the storm.

“Mallory was an integral part of our staff and will be missed,” said County Administrator Joey R. Preston.  “In less than three years of service to Bamberg, Biering wrote and received several grants for the County, totaling more than $500,000.”  These grant funds were brought to the County to help beautify the area, create green spaces and welcome entrances, create litter prevention programs, help create the Litter Enforcement Department and supply the necessary equipment for the department, increase the recycling rate, create a park, and create the new business recycling center.

“I greatly enjoyed my career at Bamberg County, and I loved serving the citizens. I will miss the community very much,” said Biering. “My favorite memory of working here would be the volunteers. There are many good-hearted people.  They are the ones who got dirty, helped build this program and helped changed Bamberg County.”

The County hired a new Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Coordinator, and as the KSCB Director, Biering will have a hand in training the new hire.
