Bamberg, SC (April 2025) — A new chapter in leadership began today in the City of Denmark. Harold Johnson was officially sworn in as Mayor during a special ceremony held at Denmark-Olar Middle School at 1:00 p.m. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of community members, family, and supporters, along with local and county leaders, who gathered to witness the historic occasion.

In addition to Mayor Johnson's installation, the City also welcomed newly elected Councilman Chris Murray and celebrated the re-election of Councilmembers Rosa James and Mayor Pro-Tem Jake Bookard. The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by outgoing Mayor Gerald E. Wright, who offered his heartfelt congratulations and reflections on his time in office.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Denmark,” said Mayor Gerald E. Wright. “I’m confident that Mayor Johnson will continue the work of uplifting our community and will serve with integrity, vision, and deep compassion.”

The ceremony was attended by several elected officials from Denmark and Bamberg County, including Bamberg County Councilmembers Jonathan Goodman, II, Spencer Donaldson, and Evert Comer, Jr., as well as Bamberg County Administrator Joey Preston. Administrator Preston praised the unity and positive momentum shown at the event. “Today marks a powerful moment of transition and progress for Denmark,” he stated. “Mayor Johnson brings fresh energy and an unwavering dedication to serving this community. Bamberg County looks forward to continued collaboration and shared success with the City of Denmark.”

The swearing-in ceremony celebrated civic engagement and community spirit, signaling a renewed commitment to growth and partnership in the City of Denmark.
