Re:     Helene SNAP Replacement Benefits on the Way

Bamberg, South Carolina (October 2024) –SNAP replacement benefits for Bamberg County citizens are on the way.

According to the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS), “The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved South Carolina’s waiver request allowing DSS to automatically issue replacement benefits to current SNAP recipients residing in counties where 50% or more of the total population experienced a power outage lasting more than four (4) hours during Hurricane Helene.”

SNAP recipients residing in 28 SC counties, including Bamberg County, “will automatically be issued a replacement of 55% of their September benefits, as determined by the federal government, and no longer need to individually apply for a replacement of their SNAP benefits” (SCDSS).

Bamberg County SNAP recipients can expect these replacement benefits on their EBT cards on or before Tuesday, October 15.

County Council Chairman Evert Comer, Jr. said, “While like much of the state, Bamberg County residents have experienced significant hardships resulting from Helene, we are pleased they will see some relief with these SNAP replacement benefits.”
