Bamberg, South Carolina (March 2022) - PalmettoPride announced that Bamberg County Government was awarded $12,645 in grant funds through the Keep South Carolina Beautiful annual support grant and PalmettoPride in partnership with the South Carolina Litter Control Association. The grants will be administered through Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and Bamberg County Code Enforcement offices and will fund litter prevention, enforcement, and education efforts through the county. Bamberg County Administrator Joey Preston said the grant funding will help support the county's beautification and litter control efforts. The first grant will fund the purchase of video surveillance equipment and night vision binoculars to address illegal dumping. The second will allow the purchase of equipment and supplies needed for community litter cleanups, marketing materials, beautification efforts, and professional development opportunities. "On behalf of the Bamberg County Council and our entire Bamberg County Government team, I want to thank PalmettoPride and the South Carolina Litter Association for supporting our efforts to keep Bamberg County Beautiful," Preston said. "We are immensely grateful to receive this financial support which underscores our firm commitment to maintaining Bamberg County's natural beauty." Bill Johnson, Bamberg County Director of Operations and Code Enforcement Officer, worked with Environmental Control Officer Farrell Pulaski, in writing code enforcement's grant application, echoed those sentiments. "PalmettoPride is the number one source of grant funding for our department and without its annual financial and professional support we would lack the resources needed to target illegal dumping, uncovered loads, and littering throughout the county." The South Carolina state legislature created PalmettoPride, a non-profit organization, as the state's anti-litter and beautification organization. In addition to numerous education and awareness programs, PalmettoPride awards grant funding to local anti-litter, beautification, and litter enforcement efforts. Bamberg County has received over $100,000 in grant funding from PalmettoPride since 2015. "Bamberg County Council appreciates the efforts our employees make to secure grant funding and to reduce litter in our county," said Dr. Jonathan Goodman, a member of Bamberg County Council. "Supporting organizations like Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and Bamberg County Code Enforcement directly impacts the social, economic, and environmental development of local communities."
