Bamberg, South Carolina (May 2018) – Keep Bamberg County Beautiful announced the winners of the Bamberg County Cleanup Blitz. KBCB sponsored a week long county-wide cleanup celebrating Earth Day, Palmetto Pride’s Zero Tolerance for Litter campaign, and Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup. Participants in KBCB’s Cleanup Blitz submitted pictures of their cleanup to win participation prizes for their efforts.
The winners of $100 Visa Gift Cards included Denmark Youth Soccer League, Bamberg County Democratic Party, Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce, and Linda Faust-Keyton (Denmark resident). Over thirty volunteers participated in the 2018 Bamberg County Cleanup Blitz. During this week, more than 30 volunteers removed 22 bags of litter from Bamberg County roadsides.
“We thank the volunteers for participating in the first Bamberg County Cleanup Blitz,” said Mary Tilton, KBCB Coordinator. “As a community, we all benefit from reduced litter on the roadways. Litter has a negative impact on economic development and decreases property values. While the optimal solution is preventing litter in the first place, conducting litter cleanups improves the environment, beautifies the community, and has been demonstrated to reduce crime. KBCB also appreciates the generosity of a Bamberg County resident who donated the funds for prizes to encourage participation in this important community cleanup event.”
KBCB encourages Bamberg County residents to conduct cleanups in their neighborhoods, near their churches, schools, and businesses. Supplies are available to interested individuals by contacting KBCB at 803-245-7970, ext 2 or via email at kbcb@bambergcounty.sc.gov. KBCB plans to make the Cleanup Blitz an annual event and looks forward to greater community involvement next year.
