Bamberg, South Carolina (December 2017) – PalmettoPride and Keep South Carolina Beautiful announced Keep Bamberg County Beautiful was awarded $10,000 affiliate support grant. The grant funds will be used to support litter control and beautification efforts in Bamberg County.
The Keep South Carolina Beautiful Affiliate Grant provides funding to certified South Carolina Keep America Beautiful affiliates for the purpose of creating and maintaining successful litter reduction and beautification programs. Keep Bamberg County Beautiful received certification from Keep America Beautiful in 2014 and has received funding support from PalmettoPride and Keep South Carolina Beautiful since its inception. KBCB will use this annual support to continue existing litter prevention and beautification programs, as well as begin new initiatives such as kayak-based litter cleanups along the Edisto River in partnership with Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce and Edisto River Adventures.
“The support from PalmettoPride and Keep South Carolina Beautiful grant is essential for continued success of KBCB,” stated Evert Comer, Jr., Bamberg County Council Chairman. “These funds are crucial to supporting the mission to reduce litter and beautify Bamberg County. As a small county, our tax base is limited and these supporting grant funds are essential for KBCB to thrive.”
“Litter is a national problem,” said Mary Tilton, KBCB Coordinator. “KBCB has removed over 75,000 pounds of trash from Bamberg County since the program started under Mallory Biering. We thank Keep SC Beautiful for this support so we can continue our efforts to educate about the importance of preventing litter. Litter not only reflect poorly on our community, but it decreases property values and economic development.” For more information about Keep Bamberg County Beautiful or to volunteer, email Mary Tilton at tiltonmk@bambergcounty.sc.gov.
