Bamberg, South Carolina (February 2018) – In February 2018, Bamberg County Voter Registration Board of Elections announced that Melinda Johnson was hired as the Director of Voter Registration and Elections. Mrs. Johnson was a clerk in the Bamberg County Voter Registration and Election department.
The Bamberg County Board of Elections conducted the search process for the Director of Voter Registration and Elections position. Patsy Blume, Board of Elections Chairwoman, said that there were many excellent candidates and the board worked very well together throughout the hiring process. “The Board is very thankful to have Melinda in the office, as she is very experienced with Bamberg County elections and voter registration,” said Mrs. Blume. “The Board has confidence in her and we appreciate that she is willing to take on the responsibilities of the office.” The Bamberg County Board of Elections consists of seven community members. The state delegation recommends the members to the Governor, who appoints the members to four-year terms.
Mrs. Johnson began work as a clerk in the Bamberg County Department of Voter Registration and Elections in September 2016, after working in other county departments. Prior to working for Bamberg County, Mrs. Johnson worked for 17 years in banking and was also a small business owner.
Mrs. Johnson was born and raised in Hilda, South Carolina. She is married to Stephen Johnson of Denmark, which is where they currently reside. They have two children, Ashten and William, and three grandchildren. “I have big shoes to fill,” stated Mrs. Johnson. “Patti Jeffcoat left a legacy of fair and just elections and voter registration. I look forward to serving the citizens of Bamberg County and to help with any questions they may have about voting or elections.” Mrs. Johnson is based in the office of Voter Registrations and Elections in the Bamberg County Courthouse Annex at 1234 North Street in Bamberg. The office is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
