Re:     Salty Road and Lazy Lane Get Long Awaited Face Lift

Bamberg, South Carolina (November 2024)Bamberg, South Carolina) – Bamberg County leaders and citizens united on Friday, November 15 to celebrate the completion of another successful infrastructure project.

In July, County Councilman Spencer Donaldson, who has been advocating to repair and improve Salty Road and Lazy Lane for some time, secured funding approval from the Bamberg County C-Fund Committee.

During heavy rains, these dirt roads were sometimes completely impassable, leaving area residents trapped and vulnerable. However, after renovations that include stronger and more secure ditches to withstand heavy rain water, residents can breathe a little easier.

Bamberg C-Fund Committee Chairman Harold Johnson also attended the ribbon cutting and noted, “We are thankful to everyone involved for coming together to see this project to fruition.”

Area residents were also in attendance, including Jamie Mack, who was given the honor of cutting the ribbon. Mack, a resident of Lazy Lane, stated she remembered when the road was “something no one wanted to see…nasty and dirty, but now it’s green and pretty and beautiful. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen.”

In addition to the road repairs, Salty Road and Lazy Lane have been part of an ongoing beautification project led by Keep Bamberg County Beautiful (KBCB). KBCB Chairwoman Nina Haynes said she was proud to see how far they have come with their beautification initiatives in this particular community and looks forward to helping to maintain and sustain their efforts.

When asked why this particular project is so important to him, Councilman Spencer Donaldson said, “All Bamberg County citizens deserve to live in a safe and clean environment. We are grateful to all community leaders and citizens, including the C-Fund Committee, who have helped us make Salty Road and Lazy Lane safe, functional, and clean once again.”

County Administrator Joey Preston said, “There’s nothing more fundamental for a thriving community than to have a solid infrastructure, which includes safe and functional roads. I’m especially grateful to Senator Brad Hutto and Representative Justin Bamberg for appointing us such a fine C-Fund Committee as well as Councilman Spencer Donaldson and Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Director Alisha Moore and Chairwoman Nina Haynes for continuing to advocate on behalf of this community and not giving up until the job was done.”
