Re:     USDA to Visit Bamberg for Public Briefing on Housing Repair Loans and/or Grants

 

Bamberg, South Carolina (June 2024) – USDA official(s) will present information regarding available housing repair loans and grants on Thursday, July 11, 5:30 p.m. at the Bamberg County Courthouse Annex (1234 North Street). 

 

Bamberg County homeowners who fall into the very-low-income category (e.g. a family of four with a household income of $31,100 or less or a family of 8 with a household income of $41,000 or less) may qualify for  US Department of Agriculture (USDA) housing repair loans and/or grants. In an effort to educate eligible applicants about the process, a USDA representative will be on site in Bamberg on July 11 at 5:30 p.m. to provide essential information and guidance. 

 

The following loans and/or grants may be available to Bamberg County homeowners:

  3. Single Family Housing Repair Loans

  • Up to $40,000 to repair, improve, or modernize their homes
  •  
  •  
  •  
  • 20-year term
  •  
  •  
  •  
  • Fixed rate at 1%

  •  
  • Applicant must own home and occupy it and be unable to afford credit elsewhere
  •

  3. Single Family Housing Repair Grants

  •  
  • Up to $10,000 for homeowners 62 or older to remove health and safety hazards from their homes
  •

  •  
  • Must repay grant if property is sold within three years
  •  

 

**Applications are reviewed year-round in the order in which they are received, and applicants may visit www.rd.usda.gov/browse-state for application assistance.

  • Up to $42,900 for homeowners who lived in a Presidentially-Declared Natural Disaster Area in 2022

Those unable to attend the public meeting on July 11 should visit usda.gov and seek application assistance from a USDA home specialist. 

 

Bamberg County Council members and administration strongly encourage all interested homeowners to attend the public meeting on July 11, 5:30 p.m. at the Bamberg County Courthouse Annex to learn firsthand if they qualify for these valuable resources.
