Bamberg, SC (April 2025) — On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Voorhees University hosted its annual Presidential Scholarship Gala under the theme “A Legacy of Excellence. A Future of Promise.” The event held at the Leonard E. Dawson Gym & Human Resources Center honored 23 outstanding scholars whose grade point averages ranged from 3.0 to 4.0, reflecting the university's commitment to academic excellence.

The gala also recognized the inspiring leadership and service of Canon Michele Hagans, Mayor Wilma Edwards, and Representative Justin Bamberg. Their contributions have significantly impacted the community and the university's mission.

Bamberg County Council Chairwoman Sharon Hammond and Vice Chairman Larry Haynes attended the evening's festivities, representing the Bamberg County Council. Joining them were members of the Bamberg County Administration, including Deputy County Administrator Thomas M. Thomas, Voter Registration Director Athena Moorer, and Public Information Officer Alisha Moore. Their presence underscored the county's proud support of Voorhees University, a foundational staple in the Bamberg community.
